Chardonnay also competes for the title of the best white grape. Its distribution is much greater than Riesling because of its ability to adjust to various climates and because Chardonnay places fewer demands on its location. However, it is more sensitive when it comes to the soil. It flourishes best in soil rich in stone and chalk. Here it can develop its fine-fruity aroma, which, coupled with the milder acidic content, creates full-bodied, voluptuous and sometimes even buttery, rich wines.
The east of the Hochheim area has just a very small plot with precisely this type of chalk soil. Only there have we planted Chardonnay to develop the Crown Prince of white wines in the ideal soil to create an ideal accompaniment to all fine fish dishes. |
