The word here does not mean ‘hell' but stems instead from the Middle High German term for ‘steep mountain' to represent this narrow band of vines on the Main. The location benefits from the reflection of light and the warming influence of the river, using them to create outstanding grape ripeness.

Heavy clay soil warms throughout the year and distributes its stored energy slowly through to November. This gives the vineyards a very long vegetation period and the grapes an exceptional ripeness. Our ‘Hölle' gives its wines monumental strength and mineral elegance combined. It is precisely this truly earthly, full-bodied style that makes this vineyard a ‘ Hochheimer-Latour'.
