Gunter Künstler When injury stopped his father Franz from bringing in the harvest, Gunter Künstler, at the tender age of 19, had to press the grapes and make the wines himself. Only then did he truly come to appreciate the fascinating and innovative scope of this traditional craft and creative profession.
‘Gunter Künstler is one of the very best German winegrowers. His Hölle , Domdechaney and Reichestal Riesling wines – regardless of whether they are Prädikat Spätlese, Auslese or Edelsüß – are among the finest in Germany. The expected lack of richness and strength of wines grown in this latitude is forgotten thanks to the outstanding elegance of the Spätburgunder wines from the Künstler cellar.'
André Dominé in his major standard work ‘Wines'
‘Gunter Künstler, son of the Sudeten Germans who were forced to leave their homeland and then founded the family wine estate here in 1965, is one of the most talented young wine producers on the Rhine. His concentrated, minerally dry Riesling wines catapulted him to fame at the end of the 80s and he can still be found among the prize winners every time.'
Hugh Johnson in his ‘Encyclopaedia of Wines'
