Our hometown is the only Rheingau wine growing community directly on the River Main. Here, shortly before it joins the Rhine, the river flows around a south-facing elevation that is neither shaded from east nor west. This favourable location, supported by the light reflection and warming influence of both rivers, guarantees the uniqueness of these vineyards.

Even Goethe once spoke of the distinctive microclimate: '..among the magnates of Rheingau wine, Rüdesheim, Johannisberg and Hochheim, there can be no dispute about rank!...'And it was the English Queen Victoria's (1819-1901) special preference for Hochheim wine that prompted the abbreviation ‘Hock' for all good Rhine wines. The name 'Hock' went on to dominate the wine menus - and price lists across the world.
